High school girls basketball roundup: Woodstock North, Richmond-Burton win regional openers


Woodstock North’s girls basketball team hit 15 3-pointers en route to an 81-15 victory over Chicago CICS/Northtown on Monday in a first-round game of the Class 3A Chicago Northside Regional.

Kaitlyn Ford led the Thunder with 17 points and five 3s. Madison Czischki added 16 points and four 3s, and Sami Long, Colette Jones and Allison Goers scored 10 points apiece.

The Thunder, seeded 14th in their own sectional, will face third-seeded Marian Central in a regional semifinal at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Class 3A Ridgewood Regional

Richmond-Burton 65, Chicago Amundsen 10: At Norridge, the Rockets, seeded 13th in the Woodstock North Sectional, defeated 20th-seeded Amundsen. R-B will face No. 4 Chicago Resurrection in a regional semifinal at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Ridgewood 44, Harvard 32: At Norridge, the Hornets, seeded 21st in the Woodstock North Sectional, lost to 11th-seeded Ridgewood in a first-round game. Haily Hill led Harvard with 10 points. Daniela Garcia added six. Ridgewood will face No. 5 Johnsburg in a regional semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Class 1A Walther Christian Sectional

Walther Christian 59, Alden-Hebron 18: The Giants lost to Walther Christian, which will face Chicago Hope Academy for the sectional title at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Alden-Hebron, coming off its second regional title in program history, was led by Eden Wanderer’s seven points. Katie Rosio added six points.
