Alden-Hebron athletic director John Lalor has dealt with a lot of things while running the McHenry County All-Star Basketball Extravaganza in 15-plus years.

But Sunday’s problem was a new one.

Lalor postponed the event, which is comprised of a girls game and a boys game, because of snow. Lalor said almost 4 inches of snow fell in an hour at around 10:30 a.m. Sunday. With the event in mid-April every year, Lalor never had to worry about snow before. He did not want players and fans driving on roads that could be slick, so the games were postponed.

The games have the area’s top senior players get together one final time as high schoolers. There also are girls’ and boys’ 3-point contests, with each winner battling for King or Queen of the Hill, as well as a boys dunk contest.

Lalor was uncertain of a makeup date. He was going to call the coaches and players involved and hoped to have a date soon.
