The estimated $4.3 million pot for the Queen of Hearts game at McHenry Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600 (3002 Route 120 in McHenry) has been stirring excitement and drawing big crowds for the bar.
It also has led the McHenry City Council to raise its raffle prize limit four times, most recently raising the individual prize limit to $6 million on Aug. 6, meaning the overall pot can reach $10 million.
At the meeting, VFW Post 4600 Senior Vice Commander Ben Keefe said he anticipated the drawing to reach the $5 million mark (in three or four weeks" and a drawdown would come soon.
"In approximately three weeks, based on current sales, we will have to do a drawdown," Keefe said.
Keefe said there would be "multiple weeks of notice" before a drawdown, which is a point where the VFW would choose to pull several cards in one week until a winner is pulled.
