Cary man arrested for waving gun at motorists, police say

A Cary man accused of waving a gun at several motorists after a car crash was arrested by Fox River Grove police Thursday night.

About 5 p.m., a 911 call came in regarding a reckless driver waving a handgun at other drivers in a fit of road rage. Fox River Grove officers located the vehicle in question heading west on Route 14 and made a traffic stop, Fox River Grove Police Chief Eric Waitrovich said.

Police found a loaded handgun in the vehicle of Richard Harden, 53, of the 100 block of Cary Street in Cary, and arrested him, Waitrovich said. The suspect later was taken by Barrington police.

Waitrovich said multiple agencies came to speak with Harden, including a detective from the Huntley Police Department who said Harden matches the description of a suspect involved in a similar crime.

Information on where Harden was being held and what he was charged with was not immediately available.
