To the Editor:
McHenry police body cameras are most needed and worth the cost!
As with any tools in law enforcement, body cameras are very essential in daily contact when the police meet. The cameras not only provide an accurate record and encounter between the police and public, and no “he said,” “she said.” The cost of cameras far outweighs the chances of any disputes and false claims or legal costs that might arise by either side.
When Mayor Wayne Jett was running for his position, he saw fit to provide our police officers with ballistics helmets. Now Jett has presented a raise in our property taxes for a swimming pool at the recreational center.
We now must weigh the cost between the two of which is more needed, a swimming pool for use of the very few or police body cameras for use of the many contacts the police and public face daily in different situation and scenarios.
Plus, the cameras could be approved by the City Council without a vote of the residents of McHenry as a needed tool for our police enforcement.
