A Des Plaines man who a judge said “terrorized his estranged wife” received a nine-year prison sentence for hiding behind a Richmond barn and attacking his then-wife and another man with a knife.

Miguel Hernandez-Solorzano’s ex-wife sobbed Friday as she recounted the day her ex-husband showed up uninvited to her sister’s home and threatened to kill her.

“I knew it was going to happen one day, and nobody believed me,” the woman cried in court.

Hernandez-Solorzano, 33, previously had pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery in connection with the October 2017 attack.

He had sent her threatening text messages days before the attack, which violated an order of protection requiring him to stay away from the woman, prosecutors said.

On Oct. 7, 2017, while the victims were attending a child’s birthday party in the 5200 block of Route 173, Hernandez-Solorzano jumped out from behind a barn and attacked the woman and another man, who he did not know, prosecutors said.

The woman, who was holding their 2-year old daughter at the time, was treated for several laceration wounds, she said.

The male victim stepped in to stop Hernandez-Solorzano, who in turn stabbed the man five times, the victim testified Friday. The attack caused lasting damage to his right arm, he said.

McHenry County Assistant Public Defender Richard Behof asked for the minimum sentence of six years, noting that Hernandez-Solorzano is remorseful and has taken responsibility for his actions.
