A Crystal Lake man with previous drug convictions turned himself in to police Monday on a warrant for possession with intent to deliver cocaine.
Arturo J. Silva remained at the McHenry County Jail on Tuesday evening on $80,000 bond. He would need to post $8,000 bail to be released.
Silva, 37, of the 6100 block of Pingree Road, Crystal Lake, is charged in two separate McHenry County cases with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic syringe and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He is accused of possessing and intending to deliver between 1 and
15 grams of cocaine May 8, according to a criminal complaint filed Oct. 9 in McHenry County court.
The specific amount of cocaine Silva is alleged to have possessed was not available Tuesday.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office would not provide additional details surrounding the charges, including how officials originally came in contact with Silva.
A conviction on the most serious charge, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, typically is punishable by as many as 15 years in prison.
Silva previously received separate two-year probation sentences in 2015 and 2005 for possession of a controlled substance.
On Tuesday, a judge appointed the McHenry County Public Defender’s Office to represent Silva. His attorney said he did not know enough information about the charges to comment Tuesday afternoon.
Silva is due in court Friday morning.
