Citizens Utility Board hosting free bills clinic in Algonquin

The Citizens Utility Board is hosting a free clinic to help Algonquin residents potentially save hundreds of dollars a year on their utility bills.

Attendees are encouraged to bring copies of their gas, electric and phone bills for a free one-on-one consultation with one of CUB’s experts.

CUB’s utility bill clinic, in association with state Rep. Allen Skillicorn, will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Algonquin Public Library,
2600 Harnish Drive. Registration is required. Call Skillicorn’s office at 815-893-4884 or email skillicorn@ilhousegop.org to register.

CUB will give consumers information on:

• How to spot unnecessary charges on natural gas, electric and phone bills

• Energy efficiency programs and rebates that can help people cut their utility bills

• Programs such as Peak Time Savings and Hourly Pricing that could save consumers money

• How to avoid scams from alternative electric and gas suppliers and make the right choices in Illinois’ energy markets

• CUB services, including its toll-free consumer hotline, 1-800-669-5556

The clinic is part of CUB’s 35th anniversary clean bill campaign, in which the consumer watchdog plans to staff at least 500 events in 2019. The campaign’s goal is to clean utility bills of bad deals and wasteful spending and to educate people about opportunities for clean energy in Illinois.

Created by the Illinois Legislature, CUB opened its doors in 1984 to represent the interests of residential and small-business utility customers. Since then, it has saved consumers more than $20 billion by helping to block rate increases and secure refunds.
