Letter: Why did the clerk's office close?

To the Editor:

I read in the Northwest Herald that Judge Thomas Meyer ruled against Robert Miller’s lawsuit in his battle to obtain a spot on the ballot for Crystal Lake City Council. Meyer ruled “that the Illinois General Assembly does not give the electoral board or courts the authority to extend the deadline.”

I would ask the judge if the Illinois General Assembly, courts or any law allows the McHenry County Clerk’s Office to close arbitrarily because the weather is bad, thus denying an applicant the opportunity to turn in their papers.

Meyer and Mary McClennan (the former county clerk), call me if you disagree (I’m in the phone book).

Charles Berndt
