To the Editor:
Response to “McHenry’s so-called mayor” letter. Wow, seriously? I live in one of the newer subdivisions, The Oaks at Irish Prairie. This was to be several hundred houses, but when the housing crisis hit, construction stopped. Then every other town started building, but not here.
Several attempts were made to get it going, but to no avail. Finally, a reputable builder came along, but like everyone in business, it wanted some concessions to ease the financial burden. When it asked for a variance in the setback and some relief of fees, even for a short period, 2nd Ward Alderman Andrew Glab jumped up and said no way. It was obviously better to not give in than to make a concession that would build houses, create additional taxes and bring several hundred families into the city, with their revenue base.
Much better to stick to your guns and get nothing rather than a little less than a lot.
Seems like if you drive through downtown, newcomer Mayor Wayne Jett has been involved in so many projects to expand and revitalize the city of McHenry. Glab on the other hand, just gives evidence as to why no one should hold an office for more than 20 years.
