AFTER DARK SCAVENGER HUNT, 7:45 p.m. April 12, The Nature Center, 330 N. Main St, Crystal Lake. Tired of the old crowded egg hunt? Come out in the dark and have some fun being nocturnal and go on our Scavenger Hunt. Bring the family or bring some friends and have fun after hours in Veteran Acres. Gather around the fire to start the night and then when you’re done the fire will still be going to warm you up. Ages 3 and up. Cost: $12-14.
KITE FLY, 10 to 11 a.m. April 13, Lions Park, 1200 Silver Lake Rd., Cary. Gather your family and invite your friends of all ages for a morning of outdoor fun to welcome spring in a festive, flying fashion. Bring your favorite kite from home and participate in the fun on your own or join in a kite flying contest including categories for biggest kite, smallest kite, most unusual kite and others. Register on site to participate in the contest. Participants must bring their own kites and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Cost: Free.

Visit this 1854 Greek Revival restored house and learn more about the resident families that called this area home. April's Open House centers around the Powers family and their contribution to the Civil War since two of their sons served the union. Volunteers in historical attire are available to answer your questions. No registration required.
