To the Editor:
I'm not a liar or an America-hating scumbag (Ted Nugent responds to county fair controversy, April 10) as Nugent described us who don't agree with him. I do, however, have a problem with Nugent performing at our county fair.
I was heartened to read of other McHenry County residents voicing their objections to Nugent being given a platform at our fair to promote his misogynistic, sexual content music. The county fair has been, and should continue to be, a family-oriented public venue. I've read his musical lyrics, and many of his songs are not family-friendly. To promote his appearance at the fair would run counter to my values and what I would think are the values of a vast majority of the residents of the county. There are numerous other performers who would better reflect the character and variety of musical choices that a broader cross section of McHenry County residents prefer. The McHenry County Fair Association needs to revisit this matte, seek out alternative performers and cancel Nugent's contract.
