She is a quickly emerging solo artist from northern Illinois who is now experiencing growing success in Nashville where she now writes, performs and records on a regular basis. JOHN PRIMER AND THE REAL DEAL BAND, 8 p.m. May 10, Woodstock Opera House, 121 Van Buren St., Woodstock. As the bandleader and lead guitarist for Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Magic Slim & The Teardrops, John Primer's virtuosity as a blues musician was forged by legends. Primer has undisputedly helped build the sound and style of Chicago blues as we know it today. The echos of tradition bellowing from the birthplaces he played such as: Maxwell Street, Theresa's, Checkerboard and Rosa's Lounges, pulse from every chord in his fingers today. Tickets: $20.

S'MORES AND SNORES, 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 10, Randall Oaks Zoo, 1180 N. Randall Road, Elgin. Enjoy the fresh air of spring. We will have a special evening tour of the zoo to see the animals and give them a bedtime snack. That's the snores part. After the tour, we will have a campfire, complete with the s'mores part! RED ROSE RAGTIME BAND, 8 p.m. May 11, Woodstock Opera House, 121 Van Buren St., Woodstock. Formed in 1981 by percussionist Mike Schwimmer and pianist/arranger Joan Reynolds, the band specializes in ragtime for the seven-piece jazz band format and their concerts present a potpourri of musical Americana, straight from the roots of our animated musical heritage – ragtime, blues and jazz, as well as pop selections from the 1920s thru the 1930s.  Violinist Will Ejzak-Reynolds will join pianist Joan Reynolds for some piano/violin duets during the program. Tickets: $19.

COOLEY RUN 5K AND SUPERHERO DASH, 8 a.m. for 5K run, 9 a.m. for superhero dash, May 12, Betsey Warrington Park, 12015 Mill St., Huntley. This is a family event for novice runners of any age and includes a chip-timed certified 5K course for the advanced runner. Children ages 4 to 8 can participate in a free superhero dash competition. Dress up as your favorite superhero. Your 5K registration includes a chip-timed 5K certified course, food, music, face painting, mobile gaming theater and a CKMC T-shirt. Children also can make a card for mom at the craft table. Cost: $35 or $85 for team/family of four.
