Full boating, debris advisory for portions of Fox River

The Fox Waterway Agency has opened up full boating for portions of the river.

The agency announced Monday morning that Zone B, which extends from William G. Stratton Lock & Dam near McHenry to the entrance at Pistakee Lake, and Zone C, the Chain O’Lakes, are open to full boating with a debris advisory. 

Zone A, from the Algonquin dam to the Stratton Lock & Dam near McHenry, remains closed for safety per the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, according to the agency.

The flood stage for the river at the Algonquin Tailwater is 9.5 feet. The river was at 9.21 feet as of 11:30 a.m. Monday, according to Fox Waterway Agency and U.S. Geological Survey.

The river near McHenry Tailwater was marked at 3.8 feet as of 12:15 p.m. with a flood stage at 4.0 feet. 

The water level has dropped about half a foot since Monday morning and the agency will be re-evaluating Zone A on Tuesday, said Joseph Keller, executive director of Fox Waterway.
