A vote to appoint a new trustee to the Algonquin Township Board may take place during Wednesday’s meeting.

New business on Wednesday’s meeting agenda includes interviews, discussion and/or action regarding the vacancy on the board left by former Trustee Melissa Victor. This comes after a closed session.

Victor announced her resignation in April after determining her position on the Township Board and her newly elected position on the Cary Park District Board would be incompatible for dual-elected service.

Initially, it was Victor’s intention to serve on both boards barring any potential conflict of interest.

The Township Board began accepting applications in May to fill the remainder of Victor’s term, which ends May 2021.

Candidates must have lived within Algonquin Township for at least one year before their appointment and must be a member of the Republican Party because Victor was.

The Township Board has three active members – Trustees Rachael Lawrence, Dan Shea and Dave Chapman – after Supervisor Charles Lutzow suffered a stroke last month.

Lutzow’s wife, Darlene Lutzow, was appointed as temporary deputy supervisor while her husband recovers.

Lawrence said all three active members of the board must vote in a favor of a candidate for them to be appointed.

Also on Wednesday’s agenda will be legal updates, including dates and times for upcoming court cases.

The board meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the township offices at 3702 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.
