Route 31 road closures set for Wednesday

Traffic on Route 31, between Lathrop and the entrance to Brunner Farm, will be closed for 30-minute periods throughout the day Wednesday.

The closures will allow crews to deliver and offload bridge beams.

The closures will start at 8:30 a.m. and will last all day until all 10 bridge beams are delivered.

Brian Carroll, a resident engineer with Civiltech Engineering, said barring “some unforeseen emergency,” all of the beams should be done before 4:30 or 5 p.m.

Traffic on Route 31 between Lathrop and the entrance to Brunner Farm will be closed for periods of 30 minutes of 10 times each throughout the day Wednesday to allow crews to deliver and off load bridge beams.

Carroll said traffic will be held until the beam is set and secure. The first one will take about half an hour because the beam needs to be attached to the bridge abutment, he said.

Each subsequent beam is attached to the previous ones, so these could go quicker, Carroll added.

In a news release, the Kane County Division of Transportation wrote that motorists should expect very long delays while traveling through the work areas and may want to add additional time to their commutes or consider alternate routes.

This construction being done is part of the Parkway Fox River Bridge Corridor, a planned tree-lined Parkway and Fox River Bridge crossing with a landscaped median. It is set to be about 5.6 miles long, running from Huntley Road to Route 62. The planned road passes through portions of Algonquin, Carpentersville, Barrington Hills and some unincorporated areas of Kane County.

According to a news release, the goal of this is to relieve congestion, encourage economic development, improve travel options and connect towns and neighborhoods.
