Check out our five players to watch before the 2019 boys soccer season gets started Monday.
Alex Canfield, Crystal Lake South, sr., F – The 2018 Northwest Herald Boys Soccer Player of the Year returns for his senior season. He scored a team-leading 31 goals for the Gators on their way to a Class 2A state championship.
Roland Dearborn, Dundee-Crown, sr., M/F – Dearborn led the Chargers in scoring in 2018. Though not big (5-foot-8, 150 pounds), he is one of the fastest players in the area. He can be dangerous when he finds open space.
Oscar Escorza, Woodstock, jr., M – One of the top returning players in the KRC, Escorza was Woodstock’s third-leading scorer last season as a sophomore. He should feature prominently in the middle for the Blue Streaks.
John O’Connor, Jacobs, sr., M – A Northwest Herald First-Team All-Area performer in 2018, O’Connor returns to an experienced Jacobs team. The Golden Eagles have 10 starters back and O’Connor is a vital piece to the puzzle.
Nate Reinhart, McHenry, sr., F – Reinhart’s junior season was cut short by an ACL injury last year. He had high expectations after scoring 12 goals as a sophomore. Reinhart should be a top scoring option for the Warriors in 2019.
