The Salvation Army in need of bell-ringers

CRYSTAL LAKE – If friends give you ringing endorsements, The Salvation Army of McHenry County just might have the volunteer opportunity for you.

The Salvation Army of McHenry County, which has operated for more than 27 years, needs bell-ringers throughout the holiday season, including on Christmas Eve. Bell-ringing is The Salvation Army’s largest source of income, according to the social service organization that provides food and services to families in need.

During the holiday season, funding supports a free community Thanksgiving dinner and toys for children in need. In 2018, The Salvation Army provided more than 8,000 gifts to local children through the Christmas Toyland Shop and Angel Tree program. Support from its bell-ringing program raised almost $200,000 in the red kettles last year.

Volunteers must make a two-hour time commitment. Bell-ringing locations are situated throughout McHenry County. Funds that are raised locally remain local to support youth, adult and senior programming, plus emergency services and homeless prevention year-round.

Those interested can visit www.registertoring.com to register or call 815-455-2769 for information. The McHenry County Corps is located at 290 W. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake, and is part of The Salvation Army Metropolitan Division.
