A 34-year-old Cartersville man will serve some prison time after pleading guilty to stealing more than $10,000 worth of equipment from a Richmond paving company.

Daniel P. Seaberg accepted an offer from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office on Dec. 23 and pleaded guilty to a felony theft charge in exchange for seven years in prison, according to a news release from the State’s Attorney’s Office, which was sent on Tuesday.

The charge stemmed from a Feb. 9, 2018, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office investigation into the theft of a truck, trailer and skid steer from a paving company from Rabine Paving in Richmond.

Officers found the skid steer in Milwaukee, and used GPS data to obtain surveillance footage from a gas station and identify Seaberg as a suspect, according to the release. Detectives were able to identify Seaberg and another man, 21-year-old Jacob Mitbo of Carbondale, as the people who stole the items, according to a criminal complaint. Mitbo similarly was charged with theft, possession of a stolen vehicle and criminal damage to property. His case is ongoing.

Seaberg was sentenced in 2006 to four years in prison for an unrelated felony theft charge, public records show.
