Angel Reinaldo-Cardoza, 48, remained at the McHenry County Jail Thursday on multiple charges of attempted murder, armed violence and aggravated battery. The request to have Reinaldo-Cardoza psychologically evaluated is routine and not an indication that he will enter an insanity plea, said his attorney, McHenry County Assistant Public Defender Richard Behof.
He is due back in court on March 20.
McHenry County Conservation District police arrested Reinaldo-Cardoza on Sept. 27 in connection with the alleged assault that sent two women to the hospital. Both women since have been released.
The attack occurred about 5:15 p.m. on a bike trail near the intersection of Oak Street and Crystal Ridge Drive north of Route 176.
Police have said Reinaldo-Cardoza attacked a woman who was walking on the trail and struck a female bicyclist who attempted to intervene.
