The difference between your car’s wheels and tires

SPONSORED

It’s a common mistake many of us make: confusing wheels with tires. Your car or truck needs both in order to move. But, while tires and wheels are attached, and while both are circular and go around while your vehicle is moving, they’re definitely not the same thing. Here is the difference between the two:

A wheel is the circular metal object to which your car’s tire is attached, explains comparison website TheyDiffer.com. It is composed of two key parts, which are the rim and the disc. Each of these parts has a specific purpose in creating a fully functional set of wheels and tires. The rim is the outer edge of the wheel that is responsible for keeping the tire in its place as it holds the air inside, while the disc keeps the rim and the axle hub connected.

A tire, on the other hand, is the black, ring-shaped rubber part, surrounding the wheel, that sits on the road. The rubber is infused with fabric and wire to make it stand up to the weight of your car and the rough road beneath it. A tire is filled with air at a particular pressure, which also helps give your vehicle a smooth and quieter ride and protects the wheel.

Simply put: The wheel is the smaller metal circular component, surrounded by the tire, which is the larger, black rubber circular component.
