WOODSTOCK – A hair salon on the Woodstock Square will undergo a makeover with the assistance of a city loan.

Darrin Flynn and Alberto Perez want to expand D&A Salon and Apothecary to add retail space, and they are looking to borrow $60,000 through the city’s revolving loan fund program to partially fund the expansion.

The project would add about 10 jobs and is projected to cost $157,594, according to city documents.

Woodstock’s Revolving Loan Fund is an economic incentive program that allows the city to offer low-interest loans to businesses that want to expand in or relocate to Woodstock.

The salon opened last May at its location at 108 Benton St. Flynn and Perez plan to annex the 1,300-square-foot former Diva’s Attic space adjacent to their property in order to create a retail space where the business will sell unique skin, hair and body products.

“We specialize in carrying products that aren’t carried by anyone in a 20 to 25 mile radius,” Flynn said. “We will bring in more lines that are exclusive to us. For some, we will be the only point of sale in Illinois, which is what our customers have been asking for.”

The salon focuses on supplying customers with all natural products that are free of ingredients such as silicone and unnatural chemicals.

The duo want to turn around the project quickly and are planning a grand opening June 24. Flynn said that the community has been welcoming to the store, and he feels the expansion would draw even more customers. Clients come from as far as Chicago for an appointment, he said.

“We’re busy,” he said. “Our retail sales have surpassed our projections. We were very conservative for our first year, and our retails are so beyond what we expected them to be. There is this hunger in the area. We are excited because we are bringing people in from outside of the immediate community. … They are making days of it. We love that.”
