High school sports roundup for Tuesday, Sept. 10

Crystal Lake Central's Maddy McCormick had seven kills and nine digs Tuesday to lead the Tigers to a 25-15, 25-11 Fox Valley Conference victory over Cary-Grove in Crystal Lake.

Grace Levin had 17 assists, nine digs and two kills for Central, which improved to 10-0 and 5-0 in the FVC. Madeline Timmerman had five kills and three aces, and McKenna Timmerman added three kills, three aces, two blocks and seven digs.

The Trojans fall to 8-3 and 3-2 in the FVC.

Huntley 2, Jacobs 0: At Algonquin, Josie Schmitendorf had 22 digs for the Red Raiders (6-0, 5-0) in a 25-14, 25-8 FVC win against the Golden Eagles.

Taylor Jakubowski recorded 17 assists and six kills for Huntley, Emma Konie had eight kills and two aces, and Kylie Jenkins and Ashley Konecki had four kills apiece. Bridget Bethke added 10 digs.

Rachel Kaczorowski had nine digs for Jacobs (6-3, 3-2), Maggie Wallenberger had four kills, and Maddie Breeze, Ireland Van Stone and Meredith Giustino had seven digs apiece.

McHenry 2, Dundee-Crown 0: At McHenry, the Warriors improved to 8-3 and 2-3 in the FVC with a win over the Chargers (0-5, 0-5). Taylor Zoephel recorded 18 digs to lead McHenry's defense, Savannah Coats had seven kills, and Sara Boelkens had six kills. Jacklyn Markovitz added seven assists.

MacKenzie Field had five kills for D-C, and Jenna Brown had 13 assists, six digs and a block.

Prairie Ridge 2, Hampshire 0: At Hampshire, Trinity Sheridan had nine kills and three blocks for the Wolves in a 25-18, 25-6 FVC win. Hannah Baudin had 16 assists for Prairie Ridge (4-2, 4-1), Ansley Morlock had two aces, Olivia Jost had six digs, and Claire Emery had three blocks and three kills.

Crystal Lake South 2, Burlington Central 1: At Crystal Lake, the Gators (2-3, 2-3) defeated the Rockets, 25-17, 23-25, 25-21, in FVC play. Jessica Proszenyak had nine kills, and Ashley Drzewiecki added eight. Jenna Rhoades had 23 assists, and Kelly Carlson had 14 digs.

South Beloit 2, Alden-Hebron 1: At Hebron, the Giants dropped their Northeastern Athletic Conference match to the Sobos, 17-25, 25-12, 25-17. Anna Webber had three aces, four kills and six digs for A-H (1-3, 1-2), Kendra Cashmore had six kills, four digs and a block, and Karly Strand had 17 assists.


Jacobs 3, Crystal Lake Central 1: At Crystal Lake, Liam Armstrong, Chris Loizzi and Alex Nicastro all scored for the Golden Eagles (3-2-2, 1-0) in an FVC victory. Tarek Shah and Ruben Zarate added assists. Preston Krahl made four saves.

Jake Nelson scored for Central (1-1-1, 1-1).

Hampshire 1, Grayslake North 1: At Hampshire, Kobe Frenette scored the only goal for the Whips (5-3), assisted by Sawyer Shores.

McHenry 4, Grant 0: At Fox Lake, Edwin Navas scored three second-half goals for the Warriors (3-2-2) in a nonconference victory. Troy Duginske had McHenry's fourth goal, also in the second half. Logan Fried made four saves in the shutout.

Ryan Gremo, Johann Mota, Kenneth Barranco and Jose Lira all had assists.


Jacobs 159, Burlington Central 170: At Randall Oaks in West Dundee, Kyle Schutt tied for medalist honors with a 37 in an FVC win for the Eagles. Jordan Stone had a 38, Jason Seaholm had a 41, and Ryan Frantik had a 43. Tyler DiDomenico had a 37 for Burlington.

Cary-Grove 158, Dundee-Crown 158: At Bonnie Dundee in Carpentersville, the Trojans picked up an FVC win with a lower fifth-golfer score in the FVC dual. C-G's Nate Jablonski had the low score for the Trojans with a 38. Cole Seeger added a 39, Michael Greenhill had a 40, and Trevor Beaugureau and Joey Vitullo had 41s.

D-C's Aidan Svec earned medalist honors with a 37. Matt McQuillen and Yash Dulla had 39s, and Jake Russell had a 43.

Crystal Lake South 163, Huntley 167: At Pinecrest in Huntley, Ricky Falbo led the Gators with a 1-over-par 37 in the FVC win. John Lishchynsky had a 38, Jack Roberts had a 43, and Spencer Shireman had a 45.

Huntley was led by Danny Sheedy (40), Josh Good (41), Trevor Book (41) and Evan Bendis (45).

Marengo 194, Johnsburg 209: At Marengo Ridge, Tyler Nelsen shot a 42 to lead the Indians to a Kishwaukee River Conference win.

Richmond-Burton 197, Harvard 214: At Abbey Springs in Lake Geneva, R-B's Ryan Eskuri led the Rockets with a 48 in a KRC win. Jack DiPiero had a 49, and Connor Lesperance and Kristoffer Diessel added 50s.

James Crout had a 47 for Harvard to earn medalist honors. Rounding out the scoring for the Hornets were Jake Chupich (53), Hunter Gratz (55) and Caden Scott (59).

McHenry 171, Prairie Ridge 172: At McHenry Country Club, Truman Keppy shot a 39 for the Warriors in an FVC win. Liam Nielsen had a 42 for McHenry, Mason McCormick had a 43, and Jordan Vargas had a 47.

Grant Klepitsch and Connor Hamilton had 41s for the Wolves. Eddie Winkelmann had a 43 and Bailey Lazar and Levi Wagner had 47s.

Belvidere North 171, Woodstock North co-op 202: At Bull Valley, Aidan Filetti earned medalist honors with a 48 in a nonconference loss.


Johnsburg 221, Marengo 224: At Marengo Ridge, Ellie Johnson shot a 46 for the Skyhawks in a KRC win. Hailey Bullamore had a 54, Savannah Prouty had a 60, and Riley Klotz had a 61. Marengo was led by Adriana Georgiades (50), Carlie Seemann (52), Brooke Aubrey (59) and Theckla Sweat (63).

Prairie Ridge 212, Grayslake North co-op 224: At Chalet Hills in Oakwood Hills, Elizabeth Tucker shot a 47 for the Wolves in a nonconference win. Joie Gindorf added a 51, and Alexis Baron, Ellie King and Kaylin Justes all had 57s.

Harvard 205, Richmond-Burton 225: At Abbey Springs in Lake Geneva, Joelle McMillan and Emma Ackland led the Hornets with 47s in the KRC victory. Julia Chupich had a 54, and Alexis Lehmann had a 57.

Alaina Robinson had a 50 to lead the Rockets. Darci Retherford had a 53, Makenna Donohoe had a 60, and Sierra Simecek and Megan Miltimore had 62s.

McHenry 192, Hampshire 200: At Boone Creek in Bull Valley, the Warriors defeated the Whips in FVC action. Gianna Farinella had a 41 for Hampshire (4-2, 1-2), Delaney Marcuccilli had a 42, Hannah Musiak had a 56 and Julia Bachta had a 61.


Cary-Grove 7, Crystal Lake Central 0: At Cary, the Trojans won all seven matches in straight sets in an FVC win over the Tigers (3-2, 0-2). Kaitlin Warner (No. 1), Jazzy Flashing (No. 2) and Sara Greenwald (No. 3) all won their singles matches.

Winning at doubles were Karina Los and Alina Krembuszewski (No. 1), Olivia Schladt and Jenna Briggs (No. 2), Kate Larry and Grace O'Malley (No. 3), and Chloe Sorensen and Mary Greenwald (No. 4).

McHenry 6, Dundee-Crown 1: At Carpentersville, the Warriors picked up their first FVC win of the season. Katrina Neufeld (No. 1), Sydney Ekeroth (No. 2) and Lani Cox (No. 3) won their singles matches for McHenry (1-3, 1-1).

D-C's Alaina Azar and Suzi Thompson picked up a win at No. 1 doubles.

Winning in doubles for the Warriors were Grace Fornwall and Mya Cermak (No. 2), Brooke Langfeld and Alex Fogleman (No. 3), and Bailey Musnicki and Eileen Zheng (No. 4).

Jacobs 5, Huntley 2: At Algonquin, Isha Desai and Kaya Trumbo won at No. 1 doubles to lead the Eagles to an FVC win. Also picking up wins at doubles for Jacobs were Lindsey Taylor and Tania Vesselinova (No. 2), Alison Gerhardt and Samantha Seibert (No. 3), and Elyssa Kontos and Anya Wieczorek (No. 4).

Lara Santa Ines added a win at No. 2 singles for Jacobs. Ruhi Gulati (No. 1 singles) and Alessandra Rivera (No. 3 singles) won for Huntley (4-6, 1-1).

Johnsburg 4, Woodstock 3: At Johnsburg, Lauren Hendrixson and Jessica Morin won at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-0, to secure a KRC win for the Skyhawks. Winning at singles for Johnsburg were Gracie Cittadino (No. 1), Kamile Aleksaite (No. 2) and Jilly Popovich (No. 3).

Woodstock picked up doubles wins from Sarah Caspari and Kelly Fischbach (No. 2), Brooke Wolf and Emily Esparza (No. 3) and Reagan Rockwood and Hannah Wietermann (No. 4).


Kishwaukee River Conference Preview: At Emricson Park in Woodstock, Woodstock North's Frank Dudzik finished first with a time of 17:37.9 at the six-team meet. Marengo's Luke Chaffin placed second, Woodstock's Jack Hansen was third, Marengo's Zach Secor was fourth, and R-B's Ethan Luedke was fifth.

CL Central double dual: At Veteran Acres Park in Crystal Lake, Central’s Austin May won the race in 16:18, while Jacobs won a pair of FVC dual meets, beating Central, 23-32, and Dundee-Crown, 16-45.

Jacobs’ Andrew Doetsch and Peter Tomson finished 2-3, and the Golden Eagles’ Connor Maloney and Colin Brenizer finished 5-6. Central’s Thomas Landt took fifth, and the Tigers beat D-C, 18-43.

Max Wizgird took seventh for D-C, and Kyle Horn was eighth for Jacobs’ fifth runner.


Kishwaukee River Conference Preview: At Emricson Park in Woodstock, Woodstock's Shannon Koscinski finished with a time of 21:48.8 to take first in the six-team meet. Woodstock North's Meghan McCann was second, and Richmond-Burton's Catherine Miller, Jane Wisniewski and Amanda Allport finished 3-4-5.

CL Central double dual: At Veteran Acres Park in Crystal Lake, Central’s Kylie Smith and Annier Ferrero finished 1-2 as the Tigers defeated Jacobs, 26-30, and Dundee-Crown, 15-45, in their FVC duals. Jacobs beat D-C, 15-45.

Central’s Nadia Sardjev was fifth, and Meghan Easterday was seventh.

Jacobs’ Elisabeth Kania and Kelly Carpenter took third and fourth, with Alyssa Demma taking sixth.
