Letters to the Editor

Letter: Thanksgiving

To the Editor:

In this divided country of ours, we should slow down and remember the blessings God bestowed upon us that too many of us forget. No matter how we feel about this man or that man, we must realize, and we also seem to forget, that we belong together.

That we must try to work things out. Be able to talk without the language of hate.

No matter what side of the political fence you’re on. It takes two to make peace as John F. Kennedy would put it. So we know we cannot always be pleased in the world. And we will always disagree on issues.

But never must we disagree on the things that binded us as a nation, nor forget the men and women who sacrificed so much so we could have such a nation.

As President Abraham Lincoln would remind us, let us bind up our wounds and find our better angels. For around this time of the year, there is always much to be thankful for.

And so let us lead with those thanks in a conspiracy of love, not a conspiracy of impeachment. Let us pray for one another, including our president and our leaders of both sides.

Let us pray for our communities, our neighbors. Let us pray for our fellow human beings around the world. But let us also repent from our sins and always give thanks to God for His blessings.

Let us pray for His wisdom of understanding and not rely on our own. For the true richness in this world lays not in the material things, but in the heart of every man and woman.

So let us love and respect one another this Thanksgiving, spend time with family. Be thankful for America, but always pray for it without ceasing. May God bless America and all of you. Happy Thanksgiving.
