To the Editor:
Illinois is in an absolute crisis with its population decline for the sixth year in a row.
Outrageous pension debt, insane property taxes and declining home values are problems we all face. If you've not already decided to flee, you can vote at every opportunity to consolidate the layers of government in Illinois, starting with the townships.
There is bipartisan support in Springfield from the governor on down to consolidate overlapping units of government, which provide the same mandated services as the county, saving the taxpayer huge administrative costs and more burdensome pensions.
Your vote to consolidate guarantees a minimum tax reduction of 10% of the township taxes now collected. Vote yes to consolidate McHenry Township and have its mandated services continued and administered at county level. Ask your neighbors and friends to do the same.
