Police arrest Woodstock man accused of shaking baby

Police on Monday arrested the 36-year-old man accused of shaking and seriously injuring an infant.

Eric Hanstad, of the 1800 block of Sebastian Drive, Woodstock, remained at the McHenry County jail Tuesday afternoon on a $500,000 bond. He would need to post $50,000 bail to secure his release.

Hanstad is accused of shaking and seriously injuring an infant whom he knew in November, Woodstock police have said.

Medical staff at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago determined that the trauma to the infant was intentional and consistent with having been "violently shaken," according to a news release police sent Monday.

Hanstad's next court appearance is scheduled to take place June 3 at the McHenry County courthouse in Woodstock.
