A 35-year-old Elgin man was sentenced to prison Thursday after pleading guilty to to a 2018 residential burglary.

Charles N. Hall accepted an offer from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office and pleaded guilty to a single count of residential burglary in exchange for a five-year prison sentence, according a news release the state's attorney's office sent Friday.

The charge stemmed from December 25, 2018, when Algonquin police responded to the 700 block of South Vista Drive for a residential burglary that occurred while the homeowner was gone, according to a criminal complaint. Hall allegedly stole from the house a laptop computer valued between $500 and $10,000.

At the scene, police collected DNA later found to match that on file for Hall, according to the release.
