The National Weather Service has expanded a severe thunderstorm watch to include much of northern Illinois until 11 p.m. Tuesday.
The watch only included Lake and McHenry counties in Illinois when originally issued around 4 p.m. The expanded watch also includes Boone, Carroll, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Jo Daviess, Kane, Kendall, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside, Will and Winnebago counties.
Large hail and damaging wind gusts are the main threats with stronger storms; though, an isolated tornado threat does exist.
Temperatures reached well into the 70s Tuesday afternoon across northern Illinois under mostly sunny skies.
