Harvard house fire remains under investigation

Officials are continuing to investigate the cause of a fire that ignited Sunday in an unoccupied Harvard home, Harvard Fire Chief Lawrence Kane said.

The Harvard Fire Department responded at 9:28 p.m. to the intersection of Blackman and Third streets for a reported structure fire, Kane said in an official statement issued Monday.

When firefighters arrived, they discovered flames near the rear end of the single-story home, Kane said. A search of the residence confirmed that no one was home at the time and none were injured, Harvard Deputy Police Chief Mark Krause said.

An estimate of monetary damage to the home was not available.

The Harvard Fire Department was assisted by the Woodstock, Marengo, Union, Hebron, Sharon, and Wonder Lake fire departments as well as the Harvard Police Department.
