A New York man facing child pornography and sexual abuse charges is due in court Wednesday after police say he traveled to Crystal Lake to engage in a sexual act with someone he knew was underage.
Andrew W. Wiese, 30, of Patterson, New York, remained at the McHenry County Jail Monday morning on $250,000 bond.
According to a criminal complaint filed in McHenry County court, Wiese traveled from New York to Crystal Lake on Friday to meet a minor whom police say he sexually abused. He's also accused of possessing two videos of a person younger than 17 years old engaged in a sexual act, according to the complaint.
The legal age of consent is 17 in both Illinois and New York.
It wasn't immediately clear how Wiese knew the alleged victim or whether they were the same person depicted in the pornographic videos.
Officers with the Crystal Lake Police Department arrested Wiese at 1:30 a.m. Saturday. He's charged with possession of child pornography, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and traveling to meet a minor.
Crystal Lake police said they could not immediately comment on the charges, citing a final report that officers were still preparing Monday morning.
The complaint alleges that on Friday, Wiese sexually assaulted a girl whom he knew to be younger than 17 and possessed two videos of a child engaging in a sexual act. The videos were dated July 24, 2020, and were found in a "hidden folder on his cell phone," according to the complaint.
Wiese had not yet hired an attorney as of Monday and a public defender has not been assigned to the case, court records showed.
