Crystal Lake motorcyclist injured, charged after Saturday crash

A single-vehicle crash Saturday in Crystal Lake sent a 60-year-old motorcyclist to the hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Crystal Lake police officers and firefighters responded at 5:29 p.m. to the area of Fair Oaks Avenue near Elmwood Avenue for a crash with injuries, Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Thomas Kotlowski said.

A preliminary investigation found that a 1994 Honda motorcycle had been traveling east on Fair Oaks Avenue at the time of the crash. For an unknown reason, the driver lost control and the motorcycle fell on its side, Kotlowski said.

First responders took the driver, Crystal Lake man Lothar Wagner, to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. From there, Wagner was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Kotlowski said.

Police subsequently charged Wagner with driving under the influence of alcohol. The alleged offense is a misdemeanor that typically results in less than one year in jail.

The crash closed a portion of the road for about 2 1/2 hours for an investigation, Kotlowski said.
