Crystal Lake man arrested again for breaking into home wearing wig, dress

Police on Thursday arrested a 49-year-old man accused of crawling through the window of a Bayview Beach home in unincorporated McHenry County while dressed in a long wig and a dress.

David L. Khollman is charged with criminal trespass to residence, disorderly conduct, and residential burglary, according to the McHenry County jail inmate log. A judge had not yet set Khollman's bond as of Thursday afternoon.

The residential burglary charge is a Class 1 felony while the other charges are misdemeanors. If convicted of the most serious offense, Khollman could be sentenced to as many as 15 years in prison.

McHenry County sheriff's officers responded to a home near Riverside Drive and Sherman Boulevard after a resident was alerted to suspicious activity around 1:21 a.m. on Thursday.

Police said that "personal belongings" were taken from the home but did not indicate what they were.

Security camera footage from the home shows a person with long hair and a floor-length dress entering the house through a bedroom window before walking toward the door and turning on the light.

The person went into the bedroom closet, where the resident's underwear drawer was located, briefly before going and turning off the light and exiting through the same window.

No one was home at the time.

Khollman's criminal history in McHenry County shows a pattern of similar behavior dating back to 1994 when he was sentenced to probation for entering another woman's home, records show.

Just last month, the McHenry County Sheriff's Office arrested Khollman after receiving a report of an unknown person who appeared to be wearing a dress and carrying a purse, walking through the yard, and peering into a window at a Burtons Bridge home.

He also was accused in 2017 of breaking into Fantasy Factory Romantic Boutique, 818 Front St., McHenry, and stealing including sex toys, clothing, and DVDs. The arrest resulted in a four-year prison sentence for which Khollman was serving parole when he was arrested Thursday, records show.

In 2001, Khollman was sentenced to 10 years in prison for entering three Burtons Bridge homes and stealing the owner's bras, Northwest Herald archives show.

During that trial, he was convicted of breaking into a McHenry woman's home, stealing three pairs of panties, and allegedly fondling the woman while she slept. In 2001, as part of the investigation, McHenry County Sheriff's deputies found a shopping bag filled with women's underwear at a Wonder Lake home where he was allegedly staying.

Khollman is expected to make a brief court appearance Friday morning, where a judge is likely to set the man's bond.

Police have said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information should call the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at 815-334-4750.
