To the Editor:
I’ve worked in the McHenry County Circuit Clerk's Office for 29 years. I work with both candidates for the office. Kathy Keefe has amazing skills for this job and is well respected by both other circuit clerks in the state and by the other offices that work closely with ours, such as police departments, law firms, state attorney, public defender and the jail.
She has served on many committees and is responsible for many statewide and local improvements to the court system. By working smarter and utilizing technology she has been able to give us the tools to do more work with less staff, thereby saving taxpayers over $2 million a year. As employees retire or move on, each position is evaluated to see if it’s necessary or if it can be managed better.
As the state progresses with technology, she has made it possible for us, her staff, to assist people in navigating that technology that many are unfamiliar with. She has made it easy to make payments online, attend court remotely, get reminders of court dates, be able to access case information online and many other changes which all benefit the general public and many people are grateful for when they have to use them.
We are consistently complimented by both local and downtown law firms about how professional and helpful we are. We have regular training for customer service with materials available to assist with knowing how to handle situations as they arise.
We cross train in other areas so that if need be employees can be substituted at moments notice and she’s compassionate when it comes to families and requiring time off for them
Her opponent is my friend, and I’ve known her 26 years, almost as long as Kathy. And while she has many skills, I feel she does not have the ones needed for a job such as this one. Please consider an insider’s viewpoint and vote to re-elect Katherine M. Keefe.
